Petroleum delivery is accomplished through three (3) and one extra tank wagon for a backup. The department also has a bulk oil delivery truck and two semis for transport deliveries to the bulk plant or direct to the customer. Petroleum bulk plant storage is 129,000 gallons. We purchase our petroleum products from CountryMark Cooperative, a petroleum refinery in Mount Vernon, Indiana.
On December 7, 1999, Shelby County Co-op purchased Wilbur Oil located in Edinburgh, Indiana. On January 31, 2005, Shelby County Co-op purchased Vaught Oil Company located in Shelbyville, Indiana. On October 1, 2006, Shelby County Co-op and Fairland Oil Company formed a partnership to share petroleum products and the Co-op acquisitioned Fairland Oil Company. On October 17, 2008, Shelby County Co-op and Harvest land Co-op formed United Energy LLC and started planning an unmanned fuel station located at State Roads 9 and 52 near Fountaintown, Indiana. The United Energy site opened on November 24, 2010. There are 2 locally owned Third Party CountryMark stations that purchase fuel from Shelby County Co-op: McCalip’s Service at Pleasant View, Indiana and Herdrich’s QuickPix in Shelbyville, Indiana.
The Petroleum Department has 8 full time employees and has annually sales of over 4.5 million gallons.
